Carpenters help erect Vietnam memorial

DeSoto — Bob Meynell (left), St. Louis Carpenters’ District Council business representative and member of Carpenters Local 1124, and Local 1124 retiree Lester Dow volunteered their skills to help set up the traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial replica that was on display here last weekend. Local 1124 member Paul Peppers and his family also helped install the wall. The “Traveling Tribute” of what is often referred to as “The Wall” in Washington, D.C., is a 4/5 replica that stands 8 feet high and spans 370 feet. The memorial honors those who served in the war, both living and dead. More than 58,000 names are listed, remembering those who died, who are missing in action or who were prisoners of war.
